Who Are You Becoming?

Finding Your Identity Beyond Approval

"All the ways of a person are pure in their own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits."

Proverbs 16:2 (NKJV)

Imagine a little girl standing in front of a mirror. She smiles, then frowns. She wonders if she’s pretty enough, smart enough, or good enough. She looks at everyone else and thinks they seem to have everything figured out. Many women never stop standing in front of that invisible mirror. The mirror simply changes. Instead of asking, “Am I pretty?” they ask, “Am I successful enough?”Am I doing enough?” “Am I enough?” If you have ever felt lost, compared yourself to others, or wondered what your purpose really is, you’re not alone. The truth is that many young women are not struggling because they lack talent. They are struggling because they are trying to build their lives on the wrong foundation.

The biggest mistake is looking for yourself in the wrong places. Imagine a tree whose roots are shallow, the wind can easily shake it, but when its roots go deep, it remains standing even during storms. Your identity works the same way. When your confidence depends on likes, compliments, promotions, relationships, or other people’s opinions, every disappointment feels like a storm. A rejection makes you question your worth. A mistake makes you question your ability, and one delay makes you question your existence. One of the greatest disservice many young women do: “I must prove my worth before I deserve to be confident.”
This belief quietly steals joy, confidence, and peace. The reality is that confidence is not earned after becoming perfect. It grows when you understand who you are, why you are here, and act accordingly.

When Self Becomes the Center

Today’s world constantly tells us to “follow your heart,” “be your own hero,” and “create your own truth.” While personal growth is valuable, there’s a subtle danger when life becomes completely centered on self.
Sometimes, we create a version of God or even a version of success that exists only to make us feel better, make life easier, or approve everything we already believe.
We begin to expect life to always go our way. We expect every dream to happen exactly as planned and believe our happiness is the highest goal.
Proverbs 16:2 reminds us of something deeper:
“All the ways of a person are pure in their own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits.”

In simple words, this means we may think our motives are always right, but true growth happens when we are willing to examine our hearts honestly.

Confidence Is Built From the Inside Out
If you plant an orange seed today, you won’t wake up tomorrow expecting a big tree with ripe fruit. You understand that growth takes time. Roots first, then the stem followed by branches, then fruits.
Yet many young women expect instant confidence, instant confidence, and instant success.Real transformation takes time,
It happens one decision at a time, one courageous step at a time.

Three Ways to Build Confidence and Purpose

1. Know Yourself Before Trying to Impress Others
Many people spend years trying to fit into someone else’s expectations. Your greatest strength should not be becoming another person. It’s becoming the healthiest version of yourself.
Spend time understanding your values.
What matters most to you?
What kind of woman do you want to become?
What strengths has life already revealed in you?
When you know yourself, comparison begins to lose its power.

2. Let Purpose Be Bigger Than Popularity
Social media often rewards visibility. Purpose rewards consistency, and not everyone is called to be famous. However, everyone is called to make a meaningful difference and impact. Instead of asking,
“How can people notice me?”
Ask,
“Whose life can I positively influence today?”
Purpose grows when you focus on contribution rather than competition.

3. Grow Through Reflection, Not Perfection
Perfection is exhausting, I tell you for a fact because i have been there, and growth is freeing. Every setback teaches something, disappointments develop resilience, and challenges reveal character.
Instead of being harsh on yourself whenever things do not go as planned, become curious.
Ask:
What is this season teaching me?
What strength am I developing?
What habit do I need to improve?
Growth-minded women do not fear failure. They learn from it.

You Are Becoming Your Legacy

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is intentional personal development. The woman you become tomorrow depends on the choices you make today. The books you read, mentors you learn from, healthy boundaries you set, and the courageous conversations you have and every step of personal growth becomes part of your legacy. Your legacy is not something you leave behind when you are gone. It is something you live out and build every single day.

True confidence does not come from pretending to have all the answers.
It comes from knowing your values, growing your character, and staying committed to becoming the woman you were created to be.
When your identity is rooted in purpose instead of performance, you stop chasing validation and start creating impact.
You no longer need every door to open to know your life has meaning.
You no longer need everyone’s approval to believe in your potential. You simply keep growing, one intentional step at a time.
