Be Seen, Be Valuable, Build You.

There was a season in my life when I had to stop hiding behind preparation and start allowing the value I carry to be felt and seen. You can have skills, ideas, experience, a business, a gift for leadership or a vision for your community, but if you never step forward to contribute what you have, the people who need your value may never encounter it. I believe that visibility is not only about seeking attention; it is about making my contribution accessible.

As a person of faith, I understand that my beliefs must be accompanied by corresponding actions. I cannot say I believe in purpose, leadership, service and transformation while remaining passive about opportunities that are right in front of me. Faith should move me from intention to action, from preparation to participation and from watching to building.
I must be willing to develop myself, show up, contribute and take responsibility for the influence I have.
Myles Munroe said, “The poorest person in the world is the person without a dream.” A dream gives me something to build toward, but a dream without corresponding action remains an idea.

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.

John Maxwell

Leadership requires movement, you must be willing to go first, learn, contribute and demonstrate the values you say you believe.
One struggle, I have observed in coaching and mentoring young women is having valuable things to offer but constantly questioning whether they are good enough in experience or ready to be seen. You look at other women online and assume they have more knowledge, connections, confidence or credibility than you do, so you keep preparing while someone else takes the opportunity.
You need to challenge that mindset.
This is the time to showcase your skills, your business, your ideas and your value. It is not about what other people think, say or do. It is about understanding what I carry and being intentional about where I can contribute.

Ways to become valuable

1. Position yourself by becoming valuable
Visibility is not about empty promises, substance is required and rewarded
Develop proficiency, sharpen skill, become excellent at something that solves a real problem. Whether you are a professional, entrepreneur, researcher, creative or student, I should be able to answer the question: What value do I bring?
You need to communicate what you do clearly, build evidence of your work and allow people to see the impact of your contribution. Visibility becomes powerful when it is connected to value.

2. Stop being a spectator and start participating
If there are communities you belong and you are quietly watching everything happen, waiting for someone to ask you what you can do; stop waiting!
Ask, “Where can I be of help?” suggest what can be done offer to kickstart or support it. Contribute your skills, resources, creativity, time, ideas, relationships or expertise. Join conversations instead of only reading them and support someone’s project. Volunteer for an assignment, make an introduction and share what you know. Every contribution strengthens your capacity and expands your understanding.
You do not become valuable by watching people build; you become valuable by learning to build with people.

3. Build where you want to belong
This is particularly important as we prepare for SHE Retreat. There are already people working behind the scenes, carrying responsibilities and making things happen. But I do not want you to attend SHE Retreat merely as a spectator. I want you to ask yourself what you can bring to the experience.
Bring your personhood — your character, relationships and presence.
Bring your proficiency — your skills, knowledge and expertise.
Bring your resources — your time, creativity, networks and finances where you are able.
Bring your profit-making capacity — your business, products, services and ideas that can contribute to building sustainable solutions.

There is blessing in the refinement, creativity, relationships and leadership capacity you develop while contributing to it.
When you contribute, you are not simply helping an event succeed. You are building yourself.
You are learning to communicate, collaborate and solve problems. You learn to lead without needing a title, take responsibility for something bigger than myself and that is how to build You.
You know you by understanding your identity and values. You equip yourself by developing competence and capacity. You position by intentionally becoming visible and valuable and release yourself by using what you have built to serve others and create impact.
You do not need to wait until you have everything figured out before you contribute.

Start where you are.
Ask where you can help. Bring what you have. Learn what you do not know. Improve as you go. Let your work create evidence of your value.
And when an opportunity comes, do not immediately ask, “Am I good enough?”
Ask instead:
“What can I contribute, and what can I become by doing it?”
The life you build today shapes your legacy tomorrow.
